Program Faculty

The CommuniRes™ program was developed and is administered by Drs. Michael T. Rupp and George E. MacKinnon III of MWU-CPG in collaboration an advisory panel of selected pharmacists who have experience and expertise in CPRPs.

Project Directors

Michael T. Rupp, Ph.D., R.Ph., Professor of Pharmacy Administration at MWU-CPG, and Executive Director of the Center for the Advancement of Pharmacy Practice (CAPP). Dr. Rupp is a nationally recognized expert in community practice research and clinical program development. In collaboration with Dr. Dennis J. McCallian (see Faculty), he was a co-originator of the Family PharmaCare Center's CPRP.

George E. MacKinnon III, M.S., R.Ph., Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at MWU-CPG, and Director of Pharmacy Education Research for the Center for the Advancement of Pharmacy Practice (CAPP). Professor MacKinnon has extensive experience in developing and implementing post-graduate pharmacy residency programs in a variety of pharmacy practice and managed care environments. He has developed several Internet applications for education and training of pharmacists.

Faculty

CommuniRes™ faculty are composed of persons who have extensive experience in professional and post-graduate educational program development in general, and in community pharmacy residency programs in particular. They include:

Dennis J. McCallian, Pharm.D., President and CEO of The Family PharmaCare Center Inc., in West Lafayette, Indiana. Family PharmaCare's CPRP was initiated in 1997 through collaboration between Dr. McCallian and Dr. Rupp, who was then a member of the faculty of Purdue University. Now in its fourth year, this residency recently became the first community practice residency to be accredited by the ASHP and was the principal template that was used in the development of the NACDS/NCPA Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Guidelines.

John P. Rovers, Pharm.D., Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of the Drake/Medicap Community Pharmacy Residency Program at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.  Since 1994, Dr. Rovers has been heavily involved in creating, implementing, and evaluating innovative patient care programs in pharmacies around the world.

Scott K. Stolte, PharmD., Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Shenandoah University. Dr. Stolte was the first graduate of Family PharmaCare's CPRP. Since accepting a position on the faculty at Shenandoah University, he has become a leader in community-based clinical education.

Julie Wickman, PharmD., Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Mercer University is a past community pharmacy resident and current independent pharmacy co-owner. Dr. Wickman is a well known national figure in pharmacy practice R&D and CPRPs.

Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale (MWU-CPG)

For over 100 years, Midwestern University (MWU) has been committed to educating health care professionals, and serving the evolving needs of society. The Glendale Campus of Midwestern University was established in 1996 in northwest metropolitan Phoenix. The 124-acre campus is home to students in the College of Pharmacy-Glendale (CPG), as well as the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the College of Health Sciences. Now in its third year of operation, under the leadership of Dean David J. Slatkin, Ph.D., the College of Pharmacy is distinguished by its accelerated three-year professional program leading to the Pharm.D. degree, and by its strong commitment to community pharmacy practice throughout the curriculum and experiential rotations.
